Chapter 3 sneak peak!

"His mate was everything to him. It had been his choice to choose a human mate.  As if he even had a choice in the first place.  Once he had seen her, she was his forever. He did not regret it, until  now, as he watched the life drain from her eyes.  He had waited for over a thousand years for her, and in just a few minutes, he was losing her forever.  He did not believe his heart could live after her death. No.  He would shut down, and die as well.  He had just been told his daughter was stillborn. He wanted to howl, and hit someone - no kill someone. He literally had to restrain himself to keep from doing so. Tara’s eyes saw his struggle.  He went over what was said that day.
Tara Michelle Seneca O'Hara reached toward him weakly with her hand, and he grabbed it holding it to his heart so she could hear it beating. For her, only for her.  She smiled at him.
“I regret nothing, Canaan. You are mine, my life, my love, my mate, and my husband. You gave me an amazing life for the last fifty years. Never forget that you and I both chose this life together.”
He nodded as a tear slipped off his chin, and landed on her hand.
He started to speak, but she said, “No. Let me finish before my life is over. It's very important for you to understand that Kaitlan is who she is - half you, and half me.  The very fact that she is here is a complete miracle!  We were never supposed to be compatible at all for children.  She is extremely special, Canaan, and will change the Clan forever.  I don’t know how I know it, but the Creator does.  Even though I will be gone, she will be here.  Remember to have understanding with her.  Canaan, Kaitlan is more than just you and me.  I cannot explain this, but she is here for a real reason.  Do not let her be hurt.  She must complete her purpose for the Clan.”
Canaan had nodded.  He knew Kaitlan would have been in danger had she lived. Even though her words puzzled and surprised him as to how she could feel something so supernatural, he would not let his mate down.  Life was so precious, and his mate's was the most precious.  He also knew that Tara was right about her feelings, because he, and the others, felt it as well.  But, she didn’t know that the daughter they had made from their love was dead.
“Tara, how will I ever live and exist without you? You are the part of my heart I could never have believed possible.  When we met, I remembered the draw to you was so strong, I could never have ignored it for very long, even if I had wanted.”
She smiled, and gave him a weak laugh. “But you did try, my love.”
Even through his tears, he laughed aloud, as they both remembered together.
Canaan had taken Tara as his mate at the young age of seventeen.  She was an orphan, and had no family.  They had met by accident when Canaan had gone to deliver
his yearly donation to the Orphanage he had created, because of his love of children.  He had turned quickly to leave, and mowed down Tara, knocking her to the floor. Reaching down to help her up, he apologized, then looked into her brilliant green eyes, and he knew, immediately, she was his mate.  His kind mated for life.
He had fought like hell not to mate with her, because she was so young, and human.  He’d been horribly ashamed of desiring an underage teenager! Yet, he found himself picking her up, taking her to concerts, dinners, and movies. She was an amazing young girl, and he loved to tease her with “blonde jokes”. Her long, “down to the waist” blonde hair, was gorgeous.  Her body, lean and slim.  Her skin was fair as the dawn, and flawless.  He had longed to touch it.
He had finally told her what he was, explained what was happening, and told her of their mating bond rituals trying to drive her away from him. But, Tara would not be dissuaded from that in anyway. She didn’t care. She loved him to distraction. She was his mate. He had insisted that they wait, at least until her eighteenth birthday, but Tara wouldn’t let up.  Her love was so strong for him, she kept insisting they were meant to be together before her birthday. She didn’t know why, she just knew that they had to mate before that date.
And, then, the day came. On that rainy and stormy night, he was exhausted when he had entered his house.  A business deal gone wrong always irritated him. He had gone upstairs to his bedroom, stripped, and was in his briefs before he turned to go into the bathroom for his shower. He stopped dead in his tracks. There, in his bed, lay Tara waiting for him covered only by a sheet. His wolf and human form were stunned to find her there!  Candles were everywhere, and the light was low. In the lightening of the storm, he saw her beautiful face surrounded by extremely blonde hair that spilled down in front, and hung below her waist. It was only a month before Tara’s eighteenth birthday. She sat up, and he watched as she deliberately allowed the sheet to slip down from her body, revealing ..."

And, a little bit more:

"The door was thrown open by Sam who was stunned, yet grinning from ear to ear as he stood aside to let Canaan's best friend, and Second, walk into the room holding a tiny bundle in a pink blanket that was wiggling, and howling angrily. The sudden stop in her crying happened when she looked up into Cordone’s black eyes. It was comical, and almost funny.  Canaan saw that it was an obvious struggle for Cordone as he tried to reign in his emotions, but he walked into the room, and nodded his head in disbelief. Canaan stood, and walked to him. Cordone placed the tiny little baby into her Father's arms. Peripherally, Canaan saw Cordone barely shake with jealousy, and inside grinned widely.  Even in that moment of grief, he had seen Cordone’s eyes glowing which told Canaan that Cordone had gazed upon his mate whom he had delivered. Nothing could have pleased Canaan more, and he knew Tara would have approved with zeal, because she loved Cordone as if he was her own brother.
Canaan had lifted the blanket. He looked into her tiny, beautiful face, surrounded by blonde curls, and brilliant green eyes so like Tara’s. She was the exact image of his mate.  A smile broke across her face as she saw her Father for the first time. Startled by the smile, he lifted a finger, and stroked his daughter’s face gently, and she giggled. He turned to his mate’s bed, and leaned down as if Tara could see her.  And, in truth, maybe she could..."
